Ned Sharp closes Summer Champs with British Age Group record

Ned Sharp ensured the final session of the British Summer Champs 2017 came to a thrilling end as he smashed a British Age Group record for 50m Butterfly gold.

The 13-year old swimmer was lining up against one of the stars of the meet in his 50m Fly final as Northampton’s Ed Mildred, who had qualified fastest, was attempting to land a remarkable eighth gold.

Sharp had already won silvers behind Mildred in both the 50m and 100m Free in Sheffield.

But the Skipton swimmer went one better in the final individual event of the week, smashing the previous British Age Group record of 26.80 with a PB 26.22 effort. Mildred was also on PB form, coming home for silver in a PB 26.58.
