Stephens claims fourth medal as more records fall at British Summer Championships

Laura Stephens claimed her fourth medal of the British Summer Championships on another day of fast swimming at Sheffield.

Two British age group records were broken at Ponds Forge International Pool and a number of personal bests set during the day three heats and finals.

Jacob Whittle set a new British record in the heats of the Men’s 13-14 Years 100m Freestyle as he clocked 53.59.

And the Derventio swimmer was just outside that time as he won the gold medal in the final in 53.67.

Brock Whiston also broke the SB9 British record on her way to victory in the Women’s MC 100m Breaststroke.

The Barking and Dagenham swimmer finished in 1:16.02 to claim the gold medal.

Plymouth Leander’s Stephens set a lifetime best of 2:10.37 to win the Women’s 19 Years and over 200m Butterfly ahead of City of Sheffield’s Isobel Grant (2:12.50) and City of Leeds’ Ruth McEwen (2:15.25).

Stephens had also won a gold in the Women’s 19 Years and over 400m Individual Medley on the opening day of the event and two bronze medals, on day two, in the Women’s 19 Years and over 100m Backstroke and Women’s 19 Years and over 50m Butterfly.

And Kieran Bird knocked almost eight seconds off his best time as he won the Men’s 19 Years and over 1500m Freestyle in 15:38.52.
