Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification first to be endorsed by CIMSPA

The ASA Awarding Body has today launched their new Level 2 Swimming Teaching qualification which has received endorsement from CIMSPA.

This is the first and currently the only qualification to be endorsed by CIMSPA’s Swimming Teacher professional standard.

The new qualification will ensure swimming teachers are able to develop water confidence, water safety and technical skills in swimmers of all ages and abilities, from non-swimmers to advanced swimmers.

It will provide swimmers with the core aquatic skills needed to be safe and competent in the water, and offer a range of pathways across other aquatic disciplines.

Excited about the launch of our new qualification

Swim England CEO Jane Nickerson said: “We are excited about the launch of our new qualification which has been endorsed by CIMSPA against their new Swimming Teacher professional standard.

“The ASA Awarding Body has played a key role alongside other key stakeholders including employers, in the creation of a professional standard which outlines the essential knowledge and skills to be a swimming teacher.”

ASA Awarding Body Responsible Officer Simon Stevens added: “The creation of this qualification is a significant landmark in our sector. The standard has been developed by Awarding organisations, employers and training providers in partnership with CIMSPA.

“We are pleased to have been able to respond quickly to the new standard, our existing qualifications have aligned themselves well and required minimal change to meet the industry standard.

“The accreditation shows that our qualification meets the needs of the employers and as such means holders of our new qualification will have the desired skills and knowledge needed to be a successful and competent swimming teacher”.

New additions to qualification

The new qualification builds on the essential knowledge and skills from previous qualifications. It also introduces personal safety, supervising swimming assistants, inclusive lessons, school swimming and teaching adults.

As with the previous qualification the majority of the assessment will be practical, ensuring that the qualification leads to swimming teachers who are ready for deployment.
