The Swim England Sport Governing Board22 February 2017
The role of the Swim England Sport Governing Board is to provide the focus and direction of the core activities of fostering and developing swimming as a sport including membership and clubs.
In this, and all the areas set out in the terms of reference, the Swim England Sport Governing Board works with the Swim England Group Board to integrate strategies, plans and resource proposals.

Here are the names of the current Swim England Sport Governing Board Members.
Chris Bostock (Chairman)
Chris, an independent member of the ASA Board since 2006, has had a long association with swimming. Many will know him from events where he leads on the technology associated with timing, scoring, data-handling and event presentation. In his role as an ASA Board member Chris was also involved in the Audit & Probity Committee with specialism in finance.
Neil Booth (Regional Representative)
Neil is the North West representative to the Sport Governing Board. He has been involved as a member of his club for over 25 years and has successfully carried out the various ‘officer’ roles within his Club. He was a founder member of the management board of the North West Region and following retirement in 2007 from a long career in the police service he has evolved into a ‘full time’ volunteer within the sport. Neil is a British Swimming Referee and is currently involved in developing material and delivering training for swimming technical officials.
Brian Collis (Regional Representative)
Ray Gordon (Regional Representative)
Ray is the North East representative to the Sport Governing Board and a member of the ASA Board since 2003 and the British Swimming Board since November last year. Ray’s major interests in swimming now involve the development of Disability Swimming and Workforce Development leading to a Culture Change.
Kay Grimshaw (Regional Representative)
Kay is the London representative to the Sport Governing Board and a member of the ASA Board since 2006. Kay became an official in 1987 and officiated at the Commonwealth Games in 2002. Kay also tutors British Swimming Officials examinations and is a Referee Course Leader.
Ian MacKenzie (Regional Representative)
Ian is the East representative to the Sport Governing and a member of the ASA Board since 2006. Like many volunteers Ian became involved in swimming through his children and qualified as an advanced teacher. Ian as also been a qualified official and is currently a qualified licensed referee and regularly officiates at all levels of swimming events.
Robert Margetts (Regional Representative)
Robert is the South West representative to the Sport Governing Board and a member of the ASA Board since 2003. He has been involved in the organisation of competitions in the South West for ASA National and ESSA competitions since 1982. In addition to organising swimming competitions Robert also referees at water polo competitions.
Roger Prior (Regional Representative)
Roger is the South East representative to the Sport Governing Board. He has been involved with the South East region as far back as 1984 fulfilling a variety of roles and was elected Regional President in 1996. Roger is an experienced swimming official and referee and has officiated at such high profile events as the Commonwealth Games and European Championships and was a volunteer Games Maker at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
Bernard Simkins (Regional Representative)
Bernard is the West Midland representative to the Sport Governing Board and a member of the ASA Board since Council 2011. As an active official and qualified referee Bernard has officiated at all levels of regional championships and continues to mentor new officials.
Pippa Jones (Sport Specialist)
Pippa is a former international swimmer and water polo player, currently employed as a senior lecturer in Physical Education, Sport Development and Sport Coaching at Sheffield Hallam University. She is an experienced coach and coach educator as well as being current president of the British Water Polo League. Between 1993 and 95 she was one of the first ASA RDOs, working in the North East region.
Barry Saunders (Sport Specialist)
Barry is the Secretary and Meet Manager of Harrogate District Swimming Club. He is also a member of both the Regional & County Management Boards. Harrogate is a disability hub. He has been involved in NationaI & Interntional Events for some years having risen through the Management structure, as an Announcer, Meet Director and now the Senior Executive Director for National Swimming Events. He was employed by LOCOG as part of the Aquatics Team to deliver Swimming & Marathon Swimming at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Jane Nickerson (CEO)
Jane joined the Swim England as Head of Administration in September 1997 from Metropole Hotels. Since that time, Jane has held a range of senior management roles within the organisation, and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2009. Jane took on the role of Interim CEO at the beginning of August 2016 and was appointed to the role on 1 April 2017.
