Moving in the right direction as an Equality employer

Swim England has been ranked within the top 200 organisations in the 2018 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index.

The sport national governing body ranked 194 out of over 430 organisations. This is a significant jump from its previous ranking of 319.

The annual index helps employers to measure their progress on lesbian, gay, bi and trans inclusion in the workplace.

Swim England ranked 319th in the last survey in 2016. The increase in the ranking is the result of improved working practices and the development of a range of best practice documents to support team members.

Proud of our commitment to equality

Jane Nickerson, CEO of Swim England, said: “We are very proud of our commitment to equality and being a Stonewall Diversity Champion. Over the last two years we have spent time raising awareness of issues within Swim England and the wider swimming community.

“We have developed a number of best practices and guidance documents to support members. These have included a transitioning at work policy and ensuring all our policies are gender neutral and sexual orientation inclusive.

“The 2018 Index shows we are moving in the right direction, but there is still more to do. As the national governing body for swimming we have a responsibility to ensure we are the best organisation we can possibly be and use that influence to support the wider swimming community.”

Participating organisations in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index demonstrate their work in 10 areas of employment policy and practice. Staff from across the organisation also complete an anonymous survey about their experiences of diversity and inclusion at work.

Emma Palmer, Client Account Manager, said: “This is a huge improvement from Swim England’s ranking in 2016. To come back and score so brilliantly in a new Index, with new criteria and with more organisations taking part than ever, it is a ranking to be proud of.”
