    Hi Nordzin,

There are a couple of things to look out for:

If you swim with lane ropes check the ends of them.  They tend to have a different pattern of colours as a mark of the end of the pool. Alternatively you may be able to create a marker yourself within the pool. It can be something to look out for which shows the end of the pool e.g. the steps or a different colour floor tile, etc.

My final suggestion would be to swim one length of the pool counting how many strokes it takes you to the end. This will be an indication as to how many strokes it takes to do a length. You can then count your way to the end without crashing.

I am always frightened of hitting the end of the pool and hurting myself, so I tend to sop before the end to check where I am. How do you know when you are at the end?

Many thanks for your advice Ian.  I assumed that by holding my breathe water would still enter the nose.  I will give it a go.  Thanks again.

    Hi Karen.

Some swimmers do exhale during the turn but most will hold their breath throughout the turn phase and then exhale only as they’re coming back out of the water again.

When completing the turn, how do you stop water from entering your nose.  I do try to breathe out from the nose but some how I end up with brain freeze!
