Choosing the right swimwear for your body

If your goal is to shape up and tone then you will probably want to choose the right swimwear for your figure as you work through the programme. Read on to gain advice on choosing the right swimwear for your shape.

Choosing the right swimwear is essential, and it is not just a matter function over form. We all want to look good in the pool as we work towards a trim new figure.

The good news is that dress codes in many pools have been relaxed to allow for additional modesty.

Nowadays you can wear almost anything you want (it’s always worth checking with your pool first though) and it’s important you feel comfortable.

The more you swim the more you will tone up as swimming is one of the best all round sports to get you in shape.  And just because you think everyone is looking at you they’re not - they are just worrying about what they look like!

You don’t need to have Gok Wan on hand to give you tips on how to bare your body just use our guides in this section on how to choose the best swimwear for both women and men!

Hi Gertie, I’m nearly 5’9” and long in the body - I find the standard Speedo racerback suits work quite well. They do make them in cool designs too. Maybe try going up a size so that the fabric can stretch lengthwise?

    Hey Gertie,

Sorry about that. My next suggestion would be to call Maru/Speedo up and see if they can suggest anything that can fit your needs.

Hi Katie, Thanks for that. I’ve spent quite a bit of time searching the internet. I’ve already checked out the sites you mention, but I’m looking for something with a racer back so I don’t have to do battle with straps falling down when lane swimming. I also really fancy something with a bit of design (I don’t want much do I? : )  ). Maru use fantastic fabrics but they’re just too short for me. I’m coming to the conclusion that there isn’t a lot of choice and that’s that! Gertie

    Hi Gertie,

I can only suggest you look on Google. I did and found the following websites which may be suitable:

Can anyone recommend a brand of sports swimwear that does longer length for tall women. I’m 5’9” and I struggle to find swimsuits long enough in the body. I’d also like something more interesting than boring black or navy! I’ve tried Maru but it was just too short.

Fitstly dont worry what other people think. I wear swim briefs because if you are serious about getting fit they do not weigh you down like shorts do. I am 35 and play water polo thats what we have to wear in trainining.

    Nothing wrong with them
