Waendel Leisure Centre offers free sessions to celebrate Swimfit launch
Waendel Leisure Centre is celebrating its launch of British Gas Swimfit by offering free teacher-led sessions for two weeks at the Wellingborough pool.
The structured programmes, which began on Monday 15 November, offer a gym-style work out in the pool whether people are interested in maintaining health, shaping and toning your body, reaching peak fitness level or competing at swimming competitions.
Swimming can give amazing results - even a gentle swim can burn more than 200 calories in half an hour.
Alongside the structured pool-side sessions, British Gas Swimfit offers a free online coach, which helps guide participants to their goals, including offering targeted advice, personal challenges, up-to-date news, and ASA expertise.
Wellingborough Council’s sports development officer Quintin Allen said: “Swimfit is an excellent initiative and we’re delighted it’s coming to Wellingborough.
“Swimming is often overlooked as a means to get fit but it can give amazing results – even a gentle swim can burn more than 200 calories in half an hour.
“It also offers other benefits – it has been shown to reduce anxiety and tension, help with depression, and as the water supports up to 90 per cent of the body’s weight, it is a really good form of exercise for people with disabilities, injuries and illnesses."
