Welcome to the Home of Shape Up and Tone on Swimfit

If shaping and toning your body is your goal then you are in the right place. This section supports the Shape Up and Tone programme in MySwimfit. Here you will find a range of advice, guidance and videos to help you access the benefits of swimming to help you look good.

So, what is the Shape Up and Tone programme?

It is all about using swimming to shape up and tone your body. You may have seen the Swimfit boards at your local swimming pool.

Well, if you have this section of the website is to help supplement the poolside Shape Up and Tone programme and its online equivalent in MySwimfit.

Shape Up and Tone is for you if you are seeking to bring about some changes in the way you look or considering using swimming as part of a weight management programme.

This may be maintaining your current weight but achieving a more toned appearance or as part of a weight loss programme. And there are some great reasons why you should be swimming to achieve this.

  • Did you know even a gentle swim can burn over 200Kcal in half an hour and a fast front crawl can burn as many calories as an 8mph run? True.
  • And that because water is about 800 times denser than air, you can work harder, and burn more calories, in a pool than out of it? Again true.

A little more programme detail please

To help achieve your goals you will need to swim two to three times a week. You will also need to be comfortable with two of the four main swimming strokes, or possibly three. These are Breaststroke, Front Crawl, Backstroke, and Butterfly.

After you have registered for free with MySwimfit you will be able to access our online session cards (see an example right). You remain on the programme for four phases working through 32 carefully devised sessions that increase in intensity ensuring you remain in tip-top shape.

If you want to know how many calories you may be burning at the pool during the Shape Up and Tone programme then try our Calorie Cruncher. It will also show you how many calories you would have burned exercising for the same period of time but walking, running or cycling.

Throughout Swimfit you are encouraged to become increasingly aware of the intensity at which you work. Intensity of exercise is an important factor in helping you to achieve your goals, and each session card has four sections delivering an overall intensity rating.

Your target is to work through the programme to deliver 100% intensity, tracking your progress in MySwimfit as you go, helping you to develop you into the new you.

Enjoy the programme.
