Bowes back on top in 15-17 Yrs Solo

Lucy Bowes dominated once again in the solo event at the ASA National Synchronised Swimming Championships following consecutive wins in 2011 and 2012 in the younger age group.

The Trafford Synchro swimmer’s energetic routine was swum to Muse’s London 2012 theme tune and combined technical difficulty with a passionate and expressive impression for 69.1000 points and a final tally of 134.4814.

The former GB athlete said: “I’m massively impressed with myself. I’ve been in hospital for a week with bronchitis and I only came out on Thursday so to come back and do a winning performance is so emotional for me.

“I’ve not seen Gen swim for a very long time so being up there with her receiving our gold medals at the same time was just wonderful.”

City of Leeds Abigail Devanny took the second podium spot (Routine 65.23333, Total 126.5938), with City of Salford swimmer Isabelle Spencer taking bronze (Routine 63.6000, Total 125.2847).

Genevieve Randall wins invitational gold

Representatives from the England Talent squad also competed in the invitational event with Genevieve Randall taking the spoils.

The 16-year old performed to the same mermaid-themed music as former GB athlete and Olympian Jenna Randall from the World Championships in 2013, scoring an impressive 74.2333 for her routine for a final total of 144.3415 – the highest of any swimmer in that 15-17 age group.

“I’m really pleased actually, that was my first gold medal at a National Championships,” said Randall, who finished 14th in the Solo at the European Championships in Berlin earlier this season.

“The focus now is definitely on Baku and the European Games.

“Today wasn’t the same routine as Jenna’s but I had the same music, because it was really successful for her at the Worlds in 2013. We decided to choreograph my own solo routine to show my personality a bit more.”

Fellow England Talent teammates Hannah Randall and Phoebe Bradley-Smith received commemorative silver and bronze medals respectively.
