Brandimarte storms to Tech Solo gold

City of Bristol’s Ilaria Brandimarte took the first gold of the ASA National Synchro Championships scoring 62.8567 in the Tech Solo.

The Italian-born 21-year old gave a powerful performance using the whole of the pool to deliver a well choreographed routine with good technical ability.

“I’m really pleased with that even though I think it could have gone a bit better,” said Brandimarte.

“I did think I had a good chance but today wasn’t about the medal, it was more about swimming a really good performance for myself.

“I chose this routine quite a few years ago but then I quit synchro for quite a long time and have only come back to it this year.”

International athlete Kerry Norden, representing South African club Aquabear, finished second overall with a score of 62.3298, while Brandimarte’s Bristol teammate Emma Holloway took domestic silver for the second consecutive senior nationals with 62.0226 points.

Shannon McGinty of City of Preston Aquatics also repeated her result from last year’s British Championships, securing the bronze medal with 60.7705.
