Brits move up to ninth in Team Free

The Team GB synchronised swimmers finished ninth after an improved showing in the final of the Team Free at the Baku 2015 European Games.

After ranking 10th from the prelims with a score of 75.1000, the Brits – who finished third in the Qualification competition earlier this season – put in a marked improvement for their performance in the final.

They scored 76.4333 for their routine to leapfrog the Netherlands into ninth overall.

British duet Genevieve Randall and Jodie Cowie also improved on their prelim score in Baku.

After 75.1667 for their first swim, Randall and Cowie improved to 75.3000 in the final to finish 12th overall.

A lot better than our prelim swim

“It was a lot better than our prelim swim,” said Randall. “We managed to achieve more corrections that we had been given by our coaches, which was good.

“Overall our marks are higher and more consistent from each judge, which obviously is also good.

“This was my fifth swim in the competition so there was nothing that I didn’t already expect to happen. I felt really well prepared, I’m pretty used to the competition environment now and it feels a lot more controlled.”
