City of Salford retain Synchro Combo Cup

News and Blogs

City of Salford have retained the Synchro Combo Cup following a dominating performance at the London Aquatics Centre.

The northwest club took two golds in session one and despite finishing third in the final event, had done enough throughout the rest of the competition to top the rankings with 36 points in five events.

Second in the rankings was Walsall SSC who scored 30 points over six events, including one gold and one bronze medal. Halifax SC were third with 22 points over seven events.

Electric final event

The final event of the day was the Division 2 15-18 age group. The spectators were in great form and the upbeat music choices provided an electric showdown between the five clubs.

Rugby SC came out on top with 64.4333 with City of Leeds beating Salford to second place.

Leeds, who were runners up in the overall rankings last year with Rugby in third, scored 62.4000 while Salford scored 62.2000 for their routine. Overall runners-up Walsall was just behind with 58.3333 points and Aqualina Synchro Club fifth with 57.7000 points.

Gateshead SSC won the 13-18 years Division 2 title with a strong performance that gave them 60.3333 points. They finished ahead of Halifax SC (58.1667) and Hythe Aqua (56.7000).

Competitive experiences

The final Division 1 event was the 12 and under age group. 17 teams competed to a range of music choices. For many of the competitors, the Synchro Combo Cup was their first opportunity to compete at a national competition and all the athletes made the most of it.

After some great routines, Halifax SC Team 2 came out on top with 52.2667 points. City of Salford SSC was second with 51.2333 points and Bramcote SC third with 50.4667 points.

“Thrilled to see so many winners”

Maria Ramos, Synchronised Swimming Leadership Team, said: “We’ve had a brilliant day today at the London Aquatics Centre.

“Over 700 athletes have been competing for the Combo Cup and I’ve been thrilled to see so many winners from each of the divisions and from across the regions, which really shows how strong synchro is getting.

“I’ve really proud of everyone. It’s been a great team effort and a fabulous day.”
