Olivia Federici took to the pool twice yesterday at the London 2016 European Championships, the first in the Duet Free prelims and then again in the Free Solo final.

You can keep up with all of the action on the London 2016 European Champs Live Stream.

Improvement from prelim in Free Solo final

Federici put in a passionate performance in the European synchro Free Solo final, improving on her prelim score to finish on 82.0667.

For the young athlete, this was her first international Free Solo final.  She executed an expressive routine to Jack White and Alicia Keys’ ‘Another Way to Die’, theme song from the Bond film Quantum of Solace. She came in tenth place overall.

“It was a really good performance for me,” said Federici, “I had a good prelim but I wanted to show that I was free with my moves but highlight my control and execution, and I definitely feel I managed to do that.

“I’ve never done the Solo internationally before so it’s been a great challenge for me. Personally it’s been really exciting to push myself and see what more I can do.” – Olivia Federici

“Tomorrow I’ve got the Duet Free Final which I’m really looking forward to and we’ve got some improvements that we know we can bring to improve and make the routine stronger reaching the 80 scores.”

Brits progress into Duet Free final

Olivia Federici and Katie Clarke made comfortable progress into the final of the Duet Free, swimming their snakes routine used to qualify for Rio 2016, finishing in ninth place.

Clarke, who swam for Team GB in the Team event when they finished sixth at the London 2012 Olympic Games, said they had increased the difficulty of the routine since qualifying for Rio, and are working to perfect it. She commented, “We’ve recently a lot of changes to our routine, since we qualified the Olympic quota place for Britain in Rio,”

“It’s a lot harder and more technical so it was the first time swimming that routine at competition. Were happy but we’ve got a look of work to before the final.” – Katie Clarke

“We’ve competed together for many years in the team events but this year we’ve started working together in the duet and it’s been great.”
