Mimi Gray takes top spot in 13-15yrs Solo

Mimi Gray won the 13-15yrs age group Solo on Day Two of the ASA National Synchronised Swimming Championships 2016.

The Reading Royals swimmer executed an expressive routine to Andrea Bocelli’s Nessun Dorma showed good technical ability and scored her a 66.4000 for a total of 132.2219.

“It feels really good to win gold. I’ve put so many hours into training and now it has all paid off. I train six or seven times a week, and usually it’s for two or three hours at a time.

“I’m looking forward to maybe going for England trials, and maybe some international competitions.”

Second place went to Gray’s club mate, Isobel Blinkhorn. Her rendition of Baila Conmigo by Juan Magan showed some nice changes in pace, and she made good use of the pool space to score 64.0333. She finished with an overall score of 126.2303.

The final place on the podium went to Millicent Costello of City of Leeds. Her expressive routine impressed the judges and the crowd alike. She showed great control throughout the routine with a well choreographed routine. The judges awarded her 61.6333 and she finished with a total of 125.2698.

Blinkhorn dominates 12yrs and under Solo

Eleanor Blinkhorn of Reading Royals was the stand out performance from the 12yrs and under age group. It was a close call after the Figures competition, with all three of the top swimmers sitting between 64 and 65 points.

Blinkhorn scored over four points more than second place, taking gold with 126.8245 overall.

Second place went to Zoe Dimond from City of Bristol SC. She was only just behind Blinkhorn after the figures, and she finished with 122.3933.

The final spot on the podium went to Wallsall Synchro’s Robyn Swatman, who took bronze with 122.3688.
