Ninth medal for Reading Royals

Reading Royals underlined their dominance in the 12&Under age group with Team gold in the final session of the 2014 ASA National Age Group Synchronised Swimming Championships.

After clean sweeps of the podium in both the Duet and Solo, the group of Abigail Taylor, Alyssa Basinger, Anna Welland, Cerys Larsen, Isabel Turrell, Isobel Blinkhorn, Mimi Gray and Rachael Newman combined to take the Team event.

Performing to music from Slumdog Millionaire, the Reading team scored 120.8363 – seven points clear of the rest of the field.

Welland said: “It went really well. It felt a lot more energetic than when we normally do it at club and it felt a lot quicker as well.

“It’s taken the whole year to put the routine together so we’re really happy.”

Rugby SC swam a high energy routine to the ‘Hairspray’ sound track, holding their patterns and presenting with conviction to score 113.6403 for silver.

Bronze went to Bristol Central SC with 113.1941 points.
