Rushmoor retain Free Combination title in Nottingham

Rushmoor retained their Free Combination title with a high-class performance at the 2017 National Synchronised Swimming Championships in Nottingham.

The Hampshire club scored 73.3333 for their routine to finish ahead of City of Bristol and Reading Royals on the podium.

Five of Rushmoor’s winning team from 2016 returned for this year’s event, with British seniors Hannah Randall and Emma Critchley adding to the strength of the squad.

And the team impressed with their difficulty, performed to a medley of music by Queen and inspired by the Canadian international team’s routine to the same track.

The high-risk routine paid off as they scored 21.4000 for difficulty – the most of any of the teams in the final.

But Rushmoor were also the only team to pick up more than 30 points for artistic impression as they finished nearly three points clear of the field.

City of Bristol claim silver with Elvis routine

City of Bristol were next best on the day as they repeated their result from 2016 to win silver on 70.5000.

Performing a fun and bright routine to a compilation of Elvis music, they scored 28.4000 for their artistic impression and a high difficulty score of 21.3000.

Kate Shortman and Isabelle Thorpe’s duet elements stood out while the team put in plenty of good lifts throughout the routine.

City of Leeds won their third medal of a successful opening day as they clinched bronze.

Rebecca Richardson had already won bronze in the Junior Figures and silver in the Solo Tech for the North East club.

And Richardson was in the water again with her teammates as they made the podium with 64.3333 in the Free Combination.
