Thorpe and Shortman combine for Duet gold at Primorje Cup

Isabelle Thorpe and Kate Shortman won Duet gold as England Talent’s Age Group squad starred at the Primorje Cup in Croatia.

The Bristol Central pair won the 13-14 Yrs Duet title at last year’s ASA National Age Group Championships.

And they impressed to score 72.4000 to qualify first for the prelims in Croatia. They then improved to 73.0667 for their free routine in the final.

After their figures scores were added, Thorpe and Shortman finished on 143.4250 with Hungary’s top pair more than six points behind in silver.

Shortman wins Solo silver

The Bristol pair were also in the Solo event with Shortman claiming silver on 145.0111. She registered Free routine scores of 73.8333 in the prelim and 72.4667 in the final.

Thorpe was fourth on 137.7055 after Free routine scores of 70.6667 (prelim) and 69.5333 (final).

Silvers in Team and Free Combination

The English synchronised swimmers also competed in the Team and Free Combination events in Croatia, winning silver in both.

The Team of Thorpe, Shortman, Victoria Usher (Reading Royals), Zoe James (Rushmoor), Daniella Lloyd (Bristol Central), Greta Hampson (City of Leeds), Sophie Freeman (Stockport Metro) and Harriette Smith (Reading Royals) scored 69.0667 for their Free routine to finish second on 134.4243.

Niamh Allanson-Campbell (Bristol Central) and Rosie Gunn (Portsmouth) joined those eight swimmers as the English squad scored 71.2333 in the Free Combination, finishing only behind Switzerland (74.2667).
