Bristol Central defend title in Recreational 13-14 Yrs Combination

Bristol Central claimed their first gold of the 2014 ASA National Age Group Synchronised Swimming Championships with victory in the Recreational 13-14 Yrs Combination event.

Bristol won eight golds across the Recreational and Competitive strands at last year’s National Age Groups and, just as 12 months ago, kicked off their 2014 campaign with a narrow win in the second youngest age group.

Everyone was really psyched up for it all and before we went on we were all telling each other we can do this.

The 12-strong team of Evie Hitchings, Jennifer Thyer, Olivia Cruickshank, Cara Barltorp, Caitlin Bateman, Madeleine Bright, Molly Dymmock-Morgan, Sharon Luisi, Katie Harvey, Grace King, Sophie Turner and Phillippa Eames scored 58.6667 for their expressive routine.

“It was a really good routine,” said Dymmock-Morgan. “Everyone was really psyched up for it all and before we went on we were all telling each other we can do this and our coaches really helped make us confident for it all.”

Thyer added: “It was an amazing feeling to be on the top of the podium. When we figured out we’d won, we were just really happy and couldn’t believe it. ”

While City of Birmingham had only half as many swimmers, they were just as impressive as Bristol and narrowly missed out on denying their title defence, scoring 58.1667 for silver.

Rugby SC landed their second medal of the day with bronze on 57.0000.
