Brown and Randall capture Free Duet gold

Jorja Brown and Hannah Randall captured Free Duet gold to hold off City of Bristol’s medal charge on the second day of the 2015 ASA National Synchronised Swimming Championships in Gloucester.

The Rushmoor pair – who train together with the England Talent team – scored 71.0333 for their complex Egyptian-themed routine to finish top of the leaderboard ahead of Bristol’s Duet Tech champions Ilaria Brandimarte and Emma Holloway (67.7000) and Reading Royals’ Alexandra Turrell and Hannah Mulshaw (65.2000).

“It feels really, really good to be back on top of the podium,” said Randall, who won the Solo Free on the opening day in Gloucester.

“The swim went really well. Our target was to make the 70s. I scored 71 for my solo yesterday so we were aiming to get something in the same area.”

“We’ve only been training that routine for about a month and a half so we’re really pleased with how it went today,” added Brown.

Brown and Randall are long-time synchro partners, having competed together at National Age Group level as well as the 2012 British Champs, and looked destined to reach the podium in this event, having finished first and second in the Figures.

And the 18-year olds’ synchronicity shone through in their performance, as did their height and comfort swimming close to each other in the water.

Brandimarte scooped her sixth medal of the competition and Holloway her fifth as they won silver with their lively performance to ‘Booty Swing’ while Turrell and Mulshaw showed good improvement in their routine which won them gold in the 15-17 Yrs Age Group in last year’s National Age Group Championships.
