Gray and Taylor lead Reading clean sweep

Reading Royals swimmers took triple honours at the ASA National Age Group Synchro Champs, claiming gold, silver and bronze in the 12 and under Duet.

Our goal was to win gold and we had certain aims for the duet which we reached today.

The winning duo of Abigail Taylor and Mimi Gray wowed spectators with a pacey Cowboys and Indians routine to the ‘Lone Ranger’ theme tune, mirroring the piece well for a strong artistic score.

The pair, who were third in the event in 2013, matched their expression with precise technical skills and maintained tight synchronicity throughout for a routine score of 60.8667 and final tally of 124.9924 points.

Gray said: “We’re really happy that was our best performance. All the lifts worked, so I think it was really good. Our goal was to win gold and we had certain aims for the duet which we reached today.”

Taylor added: “Our figures were really good this morning, so our position was strong on the leader board and that really helped our scores in the duet. Our amazing coach choreographed the routine and when we started training we tried to style it so it suited our personalities.”

Teammates Anna Welland and Isobel Blinkhorn, and Cerys Larson and Alyssa Basinger, showed Reading Royals’ strength in depth taking silver and bronze with 119.4328 (Routine score of 59.3000) and 116.6236 (Routine score of 56.9667) respectively.
