Rushmoor clinch 15-18yrs Free Team title

Rushmoor A narrowly beat City of Bristol to the title in the 15-18yrs Free Team competition, after an incredible performance in the final session of day three.

Their interpretation of ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E’ was sharply executed throughout the routine. Rushmoor swimmers showed they had a great understanding of each other, with near perfect timing and tight patterns which had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

Their seamless formation changes were impressive to watch. They pulled out a beautiful lift with a corkscrew spin and throw at the end, bringing on lots of applause from the crowd and other competitors.

Rushmoor scored 72.0333 to claim the gold medal with 137.2679 overall.

Imogen Smith commented: “We’re over the moon to win gold. This will be the last year at NAGs for some of us, and we have worked so hard for this. Beating Bristol was the best thing, they were tough competition.

“I think this is my seventh or eighth year at age groups, it stops being such a big thing. You feel more relaxed and you can enjoy it some more.

“As a team, we train together, but we also go out together and bond as a team. We all get on really well and I think that is a really important thing. If you don’t get on, don’t click and if affects your performance.”

City of Bristol wowed the spectators

It was a close one to call between City of Bristol and Rushmoor A. Bristol’s routine, a mixture of Irish and Pirate influences, had some wonderful choreography which was very well executed.

They showed off intricate and complex movements, and even included a couple of double lifts and throws. They scored 71.5333 to finish less than a point behind Rushmoor, claiming silver with 136.3280.

Reading Royals took the final spot on the podium. They had only four swimmers so they suffered a two point penalty from the start.

The film, Pan, was the inspiration for the routine and they swam to songs from the soundtrack. They made good use of pool space and managed some really good lifts, despite only having three swimmers under the water.
