Swim Safe volunteers recongised at South Tyneside Awards

Aquatics volunteers at the Sandhaven Swim Safe finished runners-up in the South Tyneside Volunteer Awards 2016.

The site was nominated for awards for their fantastic contribution to the local community and young people by delivering vital water safety skills.

The team of volunteers, returning for a third year to Sandhaven, were recognised for their outstanding teamwork and friendliness. Their engagement with local communities was also hailed as an excellent example of good practice.

The site at Sandhaven have linked up with local businesses such as the Department for Work and Pensions who encourage their staff to volunteer at Sandhaven each year.

ASA Area Swim Manager Kate Nicholson was also praised for the time and energy she invests to ensure each volunteer knows their role and has the information to perform their duties, feeling part of the Swim Safe family.

Swim Safe Delivery Manager Sarah Porter said:

The Swim Safe volunteers at Sandhaven are exceptional. They make everyone who joins the programme feel welcome, safe and most importantly have a thoroughly enjoyable experience

We will be working with them to make the volunteer experience across the country the best experience ever.
