Caradon District Council is the latest organisation to sign up to implement the asa’s National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) at its two sites, Lux Park and Saltash Leisure Centre.
The new five-year deal formalises the relationship with the national governing body and sees them working in partnership until 2013.
The agreement to use the NPTS, a template for learn to swim schemes, means the pools will use the highest quality syllabus and awards system. The plan is a comprehensive and progressive teaching programme based upon sound technical and educational principles.
The National Plan will run alongside the asa Kellogg’s Awards Scheme and looks set to benefit over 1,600 pupils that currently access swimming lessons at the two centres via busy swim school and schools programmes.
Lux Park was refurbished in 1991, with two new pools, a gym and dance studios being installed and Saltash Leisure Centre was newly built in 1998 complete with a 25m pool and gym.
The centres have been using the asa’s National Plan for several years already and have achieved Aquamark accreditation, the asa’s quality seal of approval for leisure providers.
Caradon District Council’s Swimming Lesson Co-ordinator Wendy McKay is very proud of the facilities and programmes on offer at the centres and believes the new deal will benefit the whole community.
“I think the asa awards are a fantastic incentive for all ages to learn to swim and to continue, and we are looking forward to introducing the new National Plan.”
The asa Business Team Manager Mandy Mason welcomes Caradon District Council on board.
"The asa is committed to providing our partners with the support they need to deliver quality learn to swim programmes,” she said. “We are pleased to welcome Caradon District Council’s Swim Scheme and our Business Team will be working closely with them to ensure they build on their current success whilst using the National Plan for Teaching Swimming and the asa Kellogg's Awards Scheme."
