ASA launch new University Water Polo Programme

BUCS LogoThe ASA, in partnership with British Universities & Colleges Sports, has launched a brand new university programme. Designed to increase the number of water polo players and establish stronger relationships with universities.

The University Water Polo Programme

The University Water Polo (UWP) Programme will empower students to develop water polo at their University, through financial investment and dedicated support. As such, the programme will benefit the university’s water polo club, the local water polo community and the student themselves.

Especially relevant is the valuable experience that the student will gain in sport development and project management. This represents just one of the benefits offered in exchange for developing water polo and creating a new student workforce.

Also included in the benefits package is a club grant, bespoke training and dedicated staff support from a leading NGB.

In addition to the Programme experience, students will be offered other volunteer placements with the ASA. Therefore any university students with a passion for developing sport or a keen interest in water polo, should apply to become a ‘University Water Polo Officer’.

All UWP Officers will be supported to write an action plan, focused on growing water polo at their University.

Furthermore, these plans will include actions to link with the local community for the benefit of the wider sport. These UWP Officers are water polo club committee members of the future and are an exciting addition to the sport.

Further information on the University Water Polo Programme can be found on the BUCS website here: UWP Programme.

Who can apply

Students at universities based in England can apply to become a UWP Officer.

While a desire to grow water polo is essential to the role, knowledge around the game is not.

Also, your University does not already have to have a water polo club, if you want to grow the game, we want to hear from you.

How to apply

In Year 1, the UWP Programme will include ten universities and interest in this programme is already high.

Therefore students and universities are encouraged to apply as soon as possible through the BUCS website.
