England win gold at EU Nations Cup

England’s senior women’s water polo team won gold at the EU Nations Cup in Pilsen, Czech Republic.

The English women sealed the title with a spectacular 12-6 victory against South Africa in Sunday’s final.

It was a thrilling fixture to watch, with the lead changing a number of times throughout the game.

At the half time whistle, South Africa led 4-3, but England came back with confidence in the second half.

After bringing the scores level at 6-6, the English women came into their own in the final quarter.

They scored another six goals and kept a shutout thanks to the valiant efforts of the defence and goalkeeper Kate Read.

This win means that England are now holders of the women’s senior and junior EU Nations Cup titles, after beating South Africa in both finals.

Read wins Best Goalkeeper

Read’s impressive performances in the competition saw her named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

The squad made their way into the final after winning four out of four wins in the group stages. They beat Portugal 18-6, Scotland 17-4, Czech Republic 11-10 and Switzerland 15-4.
