University of Portsmouth Water Polo Scholarship

Map of University of PortsmouthWhile the University of Portsmouth does not have water polo teams, they have a scholarship scheme available for athletes who have competed nationally at U21 or U18 level.

Scholarships involve financial support and free sports club membership, while the city has a 50m pool at Mountbatten Leisure Centre.

University of Portsmouth Water Polo Scholarships

Regional, national or international level players are eligible to apply for a University of Portsmouth Water Polo Scholarship.

The university typically offer up to 20 scholarships each year, with a financial bursary of £400 and an overall value of around £1,000.

The current scholarship programme runs on two levels – elite scholarships for athletes who have competed for the national team at U21 or senior level and development scholarships for athletes who have competed for the national U18 team.

Athletes applying for development scholarships should be aware that, while water polo players will be considered, priority may be given to applicants from Portsmouth Athletic Union sports.

Students with a University of Portsmouth Water Polo Scholarship may receive benefits such as performance screening, personal mentor support, special strength and conditioning training and free physiotherapy.

Scholars will also receive free sports membership giving them access to all the University sports facilities.

Sports Facilities at the University of Portsmouth

The University of Portsmouth has two fitness centres. The main facility is St Paul’s Gym which features cardiovascular and resistance machines while there are also two fitness studios at Spinnaker Sports Centre.

While there is no pool association with the university, the swimming club train at the 50m Olympic sized pool at Mountbatten Leisure Centre.
