Exeter became the first team to go through a prelim competition with a 100 per cent record as they topped Group B of the ASA National Age Group Water Polo Championship Boys U17 Prelims in Walsall.
The Devon outfit, who won the Boys U17 Plate competition last year, began their campaign with a hard-fought 8-4 defeat of Solihull before building to victories over Grantham, Cwm Draig B, Watford and finally, Chelmsford.
Solihull will join Exeter in the next stage of the competition – the Qualification round – after winning all five of their matches following their defeat to the group winners.
Last year’s bronze medallists Watford kept up their chances of returning to the Finals as they bagged the third qualification spot from the group, winning their opening three games before defeats to Exeter and Solihull.
The three sides will be joined by Sedgefield, City of Manchester and Invicta in the Qualification round on 28 – 29 March after they finished in the top three spots from Group A.
Chelmsford, Grantham and Cwm Draig B will progress to the Plate competition to be held at the Finals weekend in Manchester on 25 – 26 April.
