Unbeaten Exeter shine in U17 Qualifiers

Exeter win U17 qualifiers

Exeter continued their unbeaten run to qualify impressively for the 2015 ASA National Age Group Water Polo U17 Boys’ Finals.

The South West outfit, who won back-to-back trophies in 1999 and 2000, saw off 2013 champions City of Manchester 14-11 in their opening Qualification round match before booking their place at the finals with a 12 – 9 defeat of last year’s bronze medallists Watford.

While Tom Hutchens bagged hat-tricks in both games for Exeter, their squad strength in front of net shone through as 10 of their outfield players scored in at least one of their qualifiers.

City of Manchester booked the second qualification spot from the group as they saw off Watford 11-9 in their winner-takes-all match.

Last year’s runners-up Invicta and 2014’s U15 champions Sedgefield will join Exeter and Manchester in the semi-finals after progressing from the other group.

Invicta topped the group, seeing off Sedgefield 16-15 in their opening match before securing a six-goal defeat of Solihull on Sunday.

Sedgefield saw off Solihull 12-10 to secure second place in the group, scoring three times in a thrilling final quarter with the score tied at 9-9 with eight minutes to play.
