City of Birmingham pair take top spot in Youth Duet
March 25, 2023City of Birmingham pairing Magdalena Townsend and Alyssa Anderson won the gold medal in the youth duet with their vampire-themed routine.
After finishing 2nd and 10th in figures in the morning with an average of 64.6364, they scored 68.4000 in routine to finish on a combined score of 133.0364 and winning by more than three points.
“We’ve been working a lot on timing, height and adding more difficulty,” Magdalena said.
“Our goals for the rest of the season are to hopefully place in an international competition and compete this routine at Youth Worlds in the summer”.
Katherine Boitsidis and Pia Lanham from City of Bristol took the silver medal, scoring 64.3667, which combined with their figure score of 65.1182 to give a total score of 129.4848.
Their routine score was split into 19.0000 for execution, 25.8667 for artistic impression and 19.5000 in difficulty.
In third place were City of Salford’s Lena Ramanah-Beck and Sophie Flemming with the second highest routine score of the day: 65.1000, scoring 19.1000 for execution, 25.2000 for artistic impression and 20.8000 for difficulty. They finished on a combined score of 127.5546 to take the bronze medal.
Rugby take gold in close 12 and Under Duet competition
Rugby duo Lola Huett and Frankie Klym won the gold medal in the 12 and under duet competition with their fun and energetic routine to Bruno Mars’ ‘Runaway Baby’, finishing just 1.2 points ahead of their London rivals.
They scored 58.5333 in their routine, combined with a figure average of 56.2521 to total 114.7854, climbing two places from their 12 and under duet result in 2022, which Huett was also a part of.
“We weren’t expecting to win today – it feels amazing,” they said, explaining they had been doing lots of full swims of the routine in training to get it to championship-winning standard.
London duet Victoria Sharashkina and Christina Kapiris, with reserve Elisa Kato took second place with a final score of 113.5617, breaking down into 54.9000 for their routine and 58.6617 as a figure average.
Joining Rugby and London on the podium for the first time these championships were Agatha Weaver and Imogen Shellcross of City of Preston Aquatics, scoring 51.7000 in routine and 52.9877 in figures to total 104.6877 and take the bronze medal.
