SEQ Level 2 Outdoor Swimming Leader – Spring Lakes Watersports Centre
The SEQ Level 2 Outdoor Swimming Leader is for experienced outdoor swimmers who want to build on their existing outdoor swimming knowledge and skills. This will allow you to lead a group of up to eight swimmers, safely and effectively in sheltered water.
Is this course right for me?
This is for anyone who wants to build on their open water experience by leading a group of up to eight swimmers from within the water. You should have previous experience of open water swimming and be able to swim at least 800 meters continuously on your front.
What can I expect during my course?
Introduction webinar – Your tutor will go through how to access your eLearning and what to expect during the course.
eLearning – You will have eLearning to complete prior to your webinar. The estimated completion time is nine hours.
Webinar – Your tutor will go through the remaining theory topics and set assessment tasks to prepare you for your practical open water session.
Practical sessions – You will have the opportunity to deliver an outdoor swimming session to gain practical experience.

During the course, your tutor will be covering the following topics:
The different types of outdoor swimming environments
Roles and responsibilities of an outdoor swimming leader
How to meet the needs of outdoor swimmers
The dangers associated with outdoor swimming
The type of equipment needed for outdoor swimming
Key outdoor swimming skills
Planning for an outdoor swimming session
Leading an outdoor swimming session
Evaluating your own performance as an outdoor swimming leader
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by your tutor throughout your course against the specification criteria, please note this qualification is delivered and assessed in English. You will also need to complete assessment tasks, some of which will be in your own time. These include, but are not limited to:
Theoretical questions as part of your eLearning
Two written risk assessment
A written session plan
Practical delivery of an outdoor swimming session
A written self-evaluation
A written professional development plan
Your tutor will provide you with deadlines for the assessment to be submitted and completed by. All deadlines must be met to meet the qualification standard.
What happens next?
Upon successfully meeting all assessment criteria, it will take six to eight weeks for your certificate to be issued. An electronic copy of your certificate will be emailed to you.
If at the end of the course, you have not successfully met the certificate standard your tutor will provide you with feedback and guidance. You will then go through our reassessment process and have 12 months from the start date of your chosen course to complete this. Please note, if you do have to go through our reassessment process there may be additional fees associated with this.
