SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming – Blended – Moorways Sports Village & Water Park

The SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification will develop your knowledge, skills, and abilities as a swimming teacher. It builds on the SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification and gives you the skills to independently plan and deliver high quality inclusive swimming lessons. 
 
Is this course right for me?  
 
This is for anyone who has an SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant (Teaching) qualification who wants to become a swimming teacher. 
 
What can I expect during my course?  
 
eLearning – You will have eLearning to complete prior to your face to face days. The estimated completion time is eight to ten hours.  
Webinars – Your tutor will go through the remaining theory topics and set assessment tasks to prepare you for your practical poolside teaching.  
Practical sessions – You will have the opportunity to deliver at least six 30-minute swimming lessons to gain practical experience.  
 
What will I learn? 
 
During the course, your tutor will be covering the following topics: 
 
The responsibilities and role of a swimming teacher 
How the scientific principles of swimming impact on development 
How to develop Core Aquatic Skills and the four strokes 
How to identify and correct common swimming faults 
How to use a variety of teaching techniques and equipment to suit different needs 
How to plan and deliver inclusive lessons for different levels of ability, including adaptations for swimmers with special educational needs and disabilities 
Key teaching and management skills including class management and assessment, organisational skills, behaviour management, communication skills, and teaching methods 
National curriculum swimming lessons and how they differ from learn to swim lessons 
 
How will I be assessed?  
 
You will be assessed by your tutor throughout your course against the specification criteria, please note this qualification is delivered and assessed in English. You will also need to complete assessment tasks, some of which will be in your own time. These include, but are not limited to:   
 
Theoretical questions as part of your eLearning and six written questions 
Two written overviews of a series of lessons  
Six written lesson plans 
Practical delivery of at least six 30-minute swimming lessons  
A written self-evaluation  
A written professional development plan 
 
Your tutor will provide you with deadlines for submitting assessments. All deadlines will need to be met to meet the standard of the qualification.  
 
What happens next?  
 
Upon successfully meeting all assessment criteria, it will take six to eight weeks for your certificate to be issued. An electronic copy of your certificate will be emailed to you.  
  
If at the end of the course, you have not successfully met the qualification standard your tutor will provide you with feedback and guidance. You will then go through our reassessment process and have 12 months from the start date of your chosen course to complete this. Please note, if you do have to go through our reassessment process there may be additional fees associated with this.
