Tokyo Aquatics Centre is a newly-constructed venue in the Tatsumi-no-Mori Seaside Park with a capacity of 15,000. The venue will also host the Olympic diving and artistic swimming events, as well as the swimming at the Paralympic Games.

The first swimming medals handed out at Tokyo 2020 will be on Sunday 26 July (men’s and women’s 400m Individual Medley, men’s 400m Freestyle, women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay). Team GB will be hoping world record holder Adam Peaty defends his 100m Breaststroke title in the final on Monday 27 July.

Athletes have been racing in competitive swimming at the Olympics since the very first modern day Olympic Games in 1896, where it was one of the original nine sports.

Team GB have won medals across all five individual disciplines (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and individual medley). In 2016, Siobhan-Marie O’Connor won a silver medal to become just the second British swimmer to reach the Olympic podium for individual medley.

The Team GB 2020 Olympic swimming team will be selected following the British Swimming Championships 2020 in London.
