The Olympic water polo is one of the few sports which takes place nearly every day of the Games, which runs from 24 July – 9 August 2020.

The women’s bronze medal match and final will take place on 8 August, while the men’s medal matches will be on 9 August – the final day of Tokyo 2020.

Tatsumi Water Polo Centre will be based at Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center, a major swimming venue which has hosted various national aquatics events since the mid-1990s. The venue will have a capacity of 4,700.

Water polo is one of the most historic Olympic sports, having been contested since the second modern Olympics in 1900.

Great Britain were initially the dominant force in water polo at the Olympic Games, winning the first four men’s gold medals in 1900, 1908, 1912 and 1920.

Team GB entered a women’s team for the first and only time at the London 2012 Olympics, narrowly losing out to eventual silver medallists Spain in the quarter finals.
