Swim Bournemouth is looking to appoint a motivated and inspirational coach to lead the County Youth squad in collaboration with existing staff.

Job Title: County Youth Squad Lead Coach

Reports to: Head Coach, Matt Heathcock

Working hours: Part time (Up to 12 hours Swim Coaching per week, with additional attendance at Galas expected.)

Swim Bournemouth is an ambitious swimming club, committed to providing high quality teaching and coaching to children and young people from the local area. We pride ourselves on supporting the development of swimmers to achieve their individual potential and aspirations. All candidates should be committed to supporting the club in this vision and also be looking to develop his/her own coaching skills to the benefit of our talented and promising swimmers

About the County Youth Squad:

This squad will offer an opportunity to continue to progress to Swim Bournemouth’s County or Regional squads if progression takes longer. It’s also a squad that will offer Fitness training (non-competitive).

There will be a continued focus on improvement of skills and technique and training and coaching methods are offered. Regular competitions will be available to the squad; however, they are optional. This squad will have a fun, hardworking and competitive environment. There are six sessions on offer and we ask the swimmers to commit to four or five session a week. The average age of the squad is 11-15 years.


Essential Qualifications/experience

  • Experience of coaching in a club environment 
  • Experience of working in a team environment
  • A minimum of a Swim England Swimming Coach certificate or ASA Level 2 coaching qualification (or equivalent)   

Desirable qualifications/experience

  • Commitment to achieving Swim England Senior Swimming Coach Certificate
  • Graduate level aptitude or Further Education qualification to degree level


  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Enthusiastic about world class swimming
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new procedure
  • Ability to proactively identify opportunities for improvement. Actively identifies new areas for learning; regularly creating and taking advantage of learning opportunities; using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job
  • Able to provide timely and appropriate feedback on performance
  • Ability to establish good interpersonal relationships
  • Effective communication skills, written and verbal
  • Flexible approach to work and continuing professional development


  • Travel throughout the UK may be required
  • Comply with all policies set down by British Swimming and Swim Bournemouth and ensure that they are implemented as appropriate, in particular those policies relating to equity and diversity
