Hackney Aquatics Club in London has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic Masters coach to join us and help run our successful and growing Masters pathway!

The vision of Hackney Aquatics is to offer a programme that provides opportunities for all types of swimmer whatever their goals or ambitions - from learn to swim to competitive or performance swimming, to non-competitive swimming or masters. We also offer career development, through our Young Volunteer Scheme which trains and mentors the next generation of coaches and officials. Through these pathways, we want our swimmers to be part of Hackney Aquatics for life.

Our goal is to be renowned for developing highly skillful, technical and driven swimmers by providing the highest quality coaching and core values including: Teamwork, Punctuality, Commitment, Discipline, Time management, Understanding preparation, Mental and physical toughness.

Hackney Aquatics has more than double in size in the last 3 years and currently have over 400 members, of which almost 100 are in our Masters section. We have seen significant progression and development over the past 4 years and have recently been awarded the London Region Club of the Year 2018 award along with Young Volunteers of the Year. The club has a very successful competitive age group pathway and has seen recent success at National, Regional and County level. We hope to extend this success to our already popular Masters section and grow both our competitive and non- competitive swimmers in this pathway.

Successful candidates will have the following:

  • ASA Coaching Swimming Level 2 or equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years' coaching experience

  • Previous competitive swimming experience is an advantage

This role will comprise up to 8-10 hours of poolside coaching per week, on a self-employed basis. There may also be other opportunities within our programme to teach and work with other squads.

Job Specification

Outline: To plan and deliver a high standard of coaching to our Masters, and Junior Masters in line with the Head Coach’s vision and the Optimal Athlete Development Framework. To be responsible for the overall success of our Masters and Junior Masters through providing engaging and progressive training.

Main Responsibilities:

Plan and Deliver Coaching to our Masters Squad:

  • Planning and delivery of sessions for Masters and/or any other squads as directed by the Head Coach.

  • Deliver all sessions in line with Hackney Aquatics’ code of conduct

  • To deliver suitable progressive training that engages and develops a wide range of swimmers. Training will need to include triathlon/open water, fitness and sprint type sessions.

  • To attend all competitions when needed or specified by the Head Coach

  • To record swimmers attendance on the OnDeck register app and monthly feedback report to the Head Coach

  • To encourage swimmers to enter competitions as per the competition calendar set by the Masters and Head Coach and advise swimmers what events to enter.

  • Setting swimmer targets when needed

  • Regularly reviewing training and performance to ensure that the training programme is always moving forwards.

  • Talent identify any swimmers for moving into the competitive pathway level

Communications

  • Dealing with complaints and ensuring that these are escalated where necessary.

  • To deal with enquiries and communication from parents/masters swimmers in a professional manner.

  • Respond to emails on a daily basis in a professional manner

  • To liaise, report and communicate with the Head Coach on a daily basis.

  • Attend monthly coaches meetings (usually on the last Friday of the month)

Quality Assurance and Health and Safety:

  • Ensuring that all swimmers and spectators are following pool rules and that health and safety is observed at all times.

  • Deal appropriately with emergency situations, in the event of an incident filling out an accident/incident report form with as much detail as possible and following reporting to the line manager or senior management as appropriate.

  • To attend staff training and CPD sessions, and keep knowledge up to date.

  • To consider own personal development needs when choosing optional CPD attendance

Other Responsibilities:

  • To assist Hackney Aquatics with the running of competitions where needed.

  • To represent Hackney Aquatics at any event that is deemed necessary by the Head Coach or committee

  • To complete any duty that is deemed necessary by the Head Coach or committee to ensure the smooth running of Hackney Aquatics.

  • All other duties related to the role.
