Bower and Banks win European Junior silver in Norway

Ruby Bower and Phoebe Banks won their second continental medal of the month with 10m Synchro silver at the European Junior Championships in Bergen.

The City of Leeds pair came into the competition as senior European champions, having won a shock gold in Kiev at the start of June.

And the teenagers returned to the podium in Norway, missing out on a second gold by just 0.05 points.

Bower and Banks ultimately scored 274.17, with Ukraine’s Sofiia Lyskun and Valeriia Liulko taking the title on 275.22.

The result landed 17-year old Bower her second European Junior medal, having won Group B Platform silver on her debut in 2014.

It was also British Diving’s second medal of the Championships, adding to Scarlett Mew Jensen and Yasmin Harper’s 3m Synchro bronze.

Emily Martin within two points of individual platform medal

Emily Martin was less than two points shy of winning another medal as she finished fourth in the Group A Platform.

The Southampton diver finished fourth with 376.00, narrowly beaten by Germany’s Christina Wassen in third on 378.70.

Bower was also in action in the Group A Platform, finishing sixth after the final on 351.45.

Bower’s City of Leeds teammate Anthony Harding also made an individual final on the third day of competition.

Improving on his 14th from the same event 12 months ago, Harding finished sixth in the Group A 1m Springboard with 440.15.
