British Diving team announced for World Aquatics Championships

The British Diving team has been announced ahead of the World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.

A total of 13 will compete in the Championships, which begin on 12 July.

World champion Tom Daley has been named after his success at this year’s FINA Diving World Series, alongside Olympic and World Series gold medallist Jack Laugher.

Despite all his success, Laugher has never finished on top of the podium at the World Championships, something he will be looking to change when he travels to the Far East this year.

He said: “I go into every competition I do with the goal of winning and that will be no different in Gwangju, both in the individual event and with Dan [Goodfellow] in the synchro.

“2019 has been a good year so far, with my performances improving as the weeks have gone by, so I’m excited to see what we can do at the World Championships.

“We have a very strong team of divers, with Great Britain now one of the top diving nations in the world, so as a team we’ll be looking to win a number of medals and secure as many Olympic spots as we can.”

Laugher and Goodfellow secured Great Britain’s first ever one-two in the home leg of the World Series in London last month, the former winning gold and the latter silver.

Scarlett Mew Jensen and Noah Williams have also been included, having achieved new personal bests at the British Diving Championships to win their first senior domestic titles.
