Daley and Goodfellow win 10m Synchro gold at British Champs

Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow continued their build up to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games by winning the British 10m Synchro title in Sheffield.

Dive London’s Daley and Plymouth’s Goodfellow scored 444.48 to take the title at Ponds Forge, improving on their 444.30 to win European silver in London last month.

“I think that competition was steady for us,” Daley said. “It’s what you want to do at a national championships.

“It was our last competition before Rio and only two points down on our best score. We’ve competed well at pretty much every competition we’ve been to which gives us confidence.”

City of Sheffield’s Elliot Beeden and Conrad Lewandowski were the only other pair in the event, scoring 312.36 while Plymouth’s Tonia Couch and City of Leeds’ Lois Toulson scored 293.22 – a score which would have won gold at this year’s Europeans – as the only entrants in the women’s 10m Synchro.

Blagg and Gallantree claim women’s 3m Synchro

The 3m Synchro events were more competitive with four pairs in both.

City of Leeds’ Commonwealth champions Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree won the women’s event, scoring 288.69 to carry on their form from last month’s Europeans, where they won silver.

City of Sheffield’s Millie Haffety and Millie Fowler won silver on 260.79 while City of Leeds’ Kat Torrance and Lydia Rosenthall won bronze on 238.80.

In the absence of European champions Chris Mears and Jack Laugher, City of Sheffield’s Ross Haslam teamed up with Scottish diver James Heatly to take the men’s 3m Synchro title.

The pair scored 364.83 for gold while Haslam’s older brother Jack combined with City of Sheffield teammate Freddie Woodward to score 363.60 and repeat their result from this season’s National Cup with silver.
