English divers impress in 3m Prelims

Jack Laugher and Dan Goodfellow showed their strength to progress through the Men’s 3m Prelims on day four of the Glasgow 2018 European Diving Championships.

They qualified for the final in second and third place respectively with scores of 467.55 and 415.70.

Russia’s Ilia Zakharov took the lead in the qualifiers and finished on 508.10 points.

Laugher’s highest scoring dive was his penultimate. A Forward 4 1/2 Somersaults in Tucked position scored 89.30.

Coming back to make an impact

Laugher said: “It was an ok prelims with steady diving, I’ve left plenty room for improvement and I’ll be looking to come back make an impact later.”

Teammate and fellow Leeds-based diver, Goodfellow’s best dive of the morning was his Back 3 1/2 Somersault in tuck which scored an impressive 81.00 points.

This came in the fifth round of competition and left him just over 50 points behind his team mate.

Top
