Great Britain’s success on home soil in the fifth and final leg of the FINA Diving World Series ‘can help inspire’ a new generation of young divers.

The world’s best were roared on by packed crowds at the London Aquatics Centre over three days of exciting competition.

Tom Daley was crowned FINA Diving World Series 2019 champion in the Men’s 10m Platform after winning bronze at the final leg in London.

There were also medals for Daley and Grace Reid in the Mixed Synchronised Springboard, Jack Laugher and Dan Goodfellow in the Men’s 3m Springboard, Daley and Matty Lee in the Men’s 10m Synchronised Platform plus Eden Cheng and Lois Toulson in the Women’s 10m Synchro Platform.

They were all cheered on by youngsters from local schools and diving clubs from across the country.

Positive thing

Suzie Collins, Swim England Talent Development Officer for Diving, said: “It was great to see youngsters from local schools and diving clubs across the country raise the roof with their enthusiastic support for all those taking part in the FINA Diving World Series at the London Aquatics Centre.

“World-class events like this can help inspire those youngsters considering taking up the sport and even those that are currently on our talent pathway.

“It gives them something to aspire towards and who knows, one day we might see them competing in the FINA Diving World Series themselves.

“The standard of competition was world class and for these youngsters to see divers of that calibre live can only be a positive thing.”

Meanwhile, young divers from across the country will be taking part in the National Age Group Diving Championships at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Pool between 27-30 June.

Entries for the competition close at 12 noon on Wednesday 29 May.
