Five divers through to final session of Gold Coast 2018

All five Team England divers progressed to the finals session of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on the last day of competition.

Kat Torrance and Alicia Blagg, who both expressed heartbreak at failing to medal in the 1m springboard on day three, booked their places in the 3m event in fourth and seventh place respectively.

Torrance scored 305.85 overall with her best dive coming in round three, a Forward 3½ Somersaults, which earned her 65.10 points.

In a championships blighted by inconsistent performances and difficult conditions, the Leeds diver only saw her scores vary by five points.

Teammate Blagg’s best dive came in the first round, with a Forward 2½ Somersaults 1 Twist scoring 67.50 towards her overall score of 287.35.

Team England lead the way in the 10m platform final

Fresh from their silver medal in the synchro event yesterday, Matthew Dixon and Noah Williams qualified for the final in first and second respectively.

Dixon scored 429.70 to lead the field in the final session of the Games, with Williams just behind in 427.25.

Matty Lee finished on 380.85 points qualifying in seventh place.

Four of Plymouth-based Dixon’s scores were in the 70s, with his highest of 77.55 coming in the third round with his Back 3½ Somersaults.

Dixon said: “I’m really happy with how that went. I can definitely do some of my dives a lot better, but in different conditions at night we will just have to see how it goes.”

Williams, who was only drafted into the platform individual competition after Tom Daley’s withdrawal added: “I’m just trying to enjoy the moment really. It’s good that I’m here now and I am ready for the final.”
