Max Lano wins gold for Southend in Session Six

There was a gold for Southend in session six from Max Lano, and Lexie Howard completed a clean sweep of top podium finishes.

In the Boys C 1m, Max Lano of Southend Diving took gold after his final dive scored 46.80 and took him ahead of his rivals from Sheffield and Cambridge.

Lano said: “It feels good, yesterday I did the three metre and landed flat on my back, so to come back today and get this is very good. I just came into the event feeling positive.

“I’ve got the East Region, Luton Challenge and maybe Dublin later in the year, so I’m just going to be doing conditioning training, line ups and drills, just trying to cover everything really.”

Frankie Curtis, who won two golds earlier in the competition, claimed silver for City of Sheffield with a score of 215.70 and Cambridge Dive Team’s Dominic Jaunzens received bronze after finishing on 205.95.

Crystal Palace were in the spotlight again in the Girls C 3m, with Evie Summers claiming her second gold of the competition with 227.95. She just clinched the medal from Georgia Adams, who had been leading for the final round of dives, and finished with 227.50.

Crystal Palace then managed to claim two more podium spots, with a joint bronze medal for Josie Zillig and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix. Both divers scored 226.55.

Howard makes it four of a kind in the Girls A 3m

Lexie Howard topped the Girls A 3m event, despite having a slight hiccup with her seventh dive. The London Aquatics Centre diver was leading from the fourth round and finished with 310.20.

Lexie commented: “I’m over the moon, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. After my slip up with the second to last dive, I just had to forget about it and move onto the next one, and have a clear mind for the last dive.

I’m really looking forward to going to elites next year, it’s going to be challenging, but it’s going to be something different and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I need to learn a lot more dives to up my tariff, but also practice all the basics and get my entries right.”

Charlotte West of Albatross Diving Club took silver after chasing Howard all the way through to the final dive, and finished with 297.00. Domi Hinchliffe of Bradford Esprit followed up for the bronze with 288.15.

In the Boys B 1m, Oliver Hoban of Sheffield Diving took a resounding lead early in the event and sailed through to gold with his score of 241.60.

He said, “I’m really happy, yesterday I missed out on gold by two points and so I’m really happy today. I could feel that I had more adrenaline and I wanted to prove that I could beat him.”

Connor West and Joshua Hughes of Plymouth took second and third, West scoring 241.60 and Hughes scoring 239.10.
