Kat Torrance completes National Cup hat-trick

Katherine Torrance completed the perfect start to her 2017 season with a third gold at the British National Cup.

Having already scooped the 1m and 3m Synchro titles in Plymouth, the City of Leeds diver dominated the 3m Springboard title to complete her hat-trick.

After qualifying first from the prelim, the 18-year old steadily pulled clear of the field in the final.

Torrance finished on 311.85 with her 3m Synchro partner Grace Reid second on 302.15 and Sheffield’s Millie Fowler third on 259.95.

I came to put all my dives on my head

“I just came to put all my dives on my head this weekend and they’ve gone pretty well,” said Torrance, who won two golds and a silver at the World Junior Championships in November 2016.

“I’m really, really happy to come away with three golds.

“The World Juniors last year really gave me confidence. Obviously it is a different ball game there but it really made me think maybe I did have a chance of doing pretty well here.

“Grace [Reid] is an amazing diver so to go up against her is quite hard. But at the end of the day, I’m just diving for myself. I’m not focusing on anyone else.”

While Torrance’s victories in Plymouth were her first senior individual national titles, she is already an international medallist, having won FINA Grand Prix bronze in the 3m event in Bolzano, Italy three years ago.

The teenager made her senior European debut in London last season, reaching the 1m Springboard final and finishing 12th.
