Laugher and Daley win World Series silver medals in Guangzhou

Jack Laugher and Tom Daley won individual silvers as the British team picked up three medals from the second leg of the FINA Diving World Series in Guangzhou, China.

Plymouth Diving’s Daley finished second in the 10m Platform while Laugher collected his silver in the 3m Springboard.

Laugher also teamed up with Chris Mears in the 3m Synchro as the Olympic champions repeated their result from the opening leg of the series by winning silver.

Just as in Beijing six days ago, the English pair were beaten by China’s Cao Yuan and Xie Siyi.

But it was an improved performance from Laugher and Mears who scored 450.60 compared to their 427.98 from Beijing.

But while the Brits’ score would have won gold at the first leg, the Chinese pair also upped their game in Guangzhou, scoring 466.02.

Laugher won his fourth medal of the 2017 World Series the following day, splitting Xie and Cao on the podium in the individual 3m.

The Leeds diver scored 529.05 with Xie on 556.20 and Cao on 519.80.

Daley reaches podium for second consecutive World Series

Daley also finished on the podium for the second consecutive World Series event, upgrading from bronze at the opening leg in Beijing.

The 2012 Olympic bronze medallist recovered from a dropped dive in the opening round to score 531.45 overall, breaking 100 points for both his second and fourth efforts.

Chen Aisen, also the champion in Beijing, won gold on 601.15, finishing with 109.15 and 108.00 for his final two dives. China’s Yang Hao took bronze on 526.65.

Daley was also in action in the Mixed 3m Synchro, finishing fifth with Scottish diver Grace Reid. City of Leeds youngster Kat Torrance also teamed up with Reid as they placed sixth in the Women’s 3m Synchro while Torrance was fifth in her semi-final in the individual 3m.

Tonia Couch and Lois Toulson were the only other English divers in action in Guangzhou, placing fifth in the 10m Synchro.
