Laugher continues impressive start to season with World Series gold

Jack Laugher continued his impressive start to the season with individual gold at the World Series leg in Beijing.

Having won 3m Synchro silver with Chris Mears on the opening day in China, he went one better in the 3m Springboard.

After winning his semi-final with 497.90, Olympic silver medallist Laugher improved to 554.00 to take victory in the final.

The English diver’s score would have won gold at Rio 2016 last summer and he had a pair of world class Chinese divers behind him in the final.

World 1m Springboard champion Xie Siyi took silver on 539.15 while Cao Yuan, who beat Laugher to the 3m title in Rio, was third on 510.05.

Katherine Torrance reaches first World Series final

Laugher’s Leeds teammate Katherine Torrance also caught the eye as she reached the 3m final on her World Series debut.

The 18-year old has been in the form of her life this season, claiming a hat-trick of springboard golds at the National Cup last month, having won World Junior gold at the end of the 2016 season.

And the teenager continued her rapid improvement, scoring 325.80 to finish third in her semi and qualify for the final.

While Torrance couldn’t replicate her score in the final, she emerged with plenty of credit with a score of 312.60 in fifth.

Tom Daley was also in action on day two in China. He teamed up with Grace Reid in the Mixed 3m Synchro as the European champions finished fourth on 300.33.
