Lee and Toulson combine for Mixed 10m Synchro gold

Matty Lee and Lois Toulson won Mixed 10m Synchro gold to continue the British medal rush at the 2017 European Championships in Kiev, Ukraine.

The City of Leeds pair scored 308.16 to claim the fourth British – and English – medal of the Championships, and third gold.

Toulson had already topped the podium in the individual 10m while another Leeds pairing, Phoebe Banks and Ruby Bower, won the women’s 10m Synchro title.

“It was a good competition for us today,” said Lee, who won silver alongside Georgia Ward in the same event at last year’s European Championships in London.

“We are very happy with the result. Lois is very pleased now as she is a double champion here.”

Lee and Toulson add to 2017 domestic titles

Lee, 19, and Toulson, 17, have topped the podium on the national stage twice this season. They scored 335.04 to beat Tom Daley and Tonia Couch at the season-opening National Cup.

The also won the British title with 315.78 – albeit as the only entrants – before winning individual 10m golds in Edinburgh.

And while they fell short of their domestic scores in Ukraine, the young English pair impressed to hold their nerve against some experienced international divers.

Carrying less than a two-point lead into the final round of dives, the Brits scored their best score of the competition with 74.88 for their back 2 ½ somersaults, 1 ½ twists piked.

It was enough to see them pull clear of the field as pairs from Russia (300.30) and Italy (299.58) completed the podium.

Ross Haslam finishes fifth in 3m

British champion Ross Haslam impressed on his European debut to finish fifth in the men’s 3m Springboard.

The 19-year old City of Sheffield diver scored 429.65 in the 12-man final, adding more than 35 points to his 391.35 from the morning preliminary.
