Olympic medallists head up World Championships squad

Team GB’s four Rio 2016 Olympic medallists will lead a team of 12 divers as they head out to this summer’s World Championships in Budapest.

Jack Laugher, Chris Mears, Dan Goodfellow and Tom Daley bring a wealth of experience to the British Diving squad while Tonia Couch will compete at her seventh consecutive World Championships, having made her debut in 2005.

Another four English divers – Kat Torrance, Lois Toulson, Ross Haslam and Robyn Birch – will be competing at their maiden Worlds in Hungary.

Dan Goodfellow and Matty Lee are two other English divers on the team, both set to compete at their second World Championships.

Laugher commented: “I am doing the 1m Springboard this year which I haven’t done for a few years but I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“I’m excited to get back to action at the World Championships. What happened last year at the Olympics was a dream come true and I want to be able to show that I can continue to develop in my diving.

“I’ve had a good World Series competition in the 3m Springboard and 3m Synchro which gives me confidence going into the World Championships.”

Daley will be competing in the men’s 10m Platform event. He will also team up with his synchro partner Goodfellow, with whom he secured an Olympic bronze medal last summer.

Toulson will team up with Tonia Couch in the women’s 10m Synchro. The pair will be looking to build on their gold medal-winning performance at the British Diving Championships last weekend.

The diving events at the 2017 World Championships will take place from 15 – 22 July in Budapest.
