Scarlett Mew Jensen wins 3m Springboard gold in Plymouth

Scarlett Mew Jensen underlined her recent improvement to land Group A 3m Springboard gold on day three of the British Junior Elite Diving Championships 2017.

The 15-year old Dive London diver scored 414.70 to claim the title in Plymouth, having also won the prelim earlier in the day.

Coming into this year’s Championships, Mew Jensen had only topped the podium twice before at Junior Elite level, winning the Group C 1m and 9-13 Yrs 3m Synchro double in 2014.

But she has already doubled her tally of victories this week in Plymouth, having also teamed up with Maria Papworth for 14-18 Yrs 3m Synchro gold on the opening day.

The pair also topped the podium at last month’s 7 Nations Youth Diving Meet in France where Mew Jensen won individual Group B 1m bronze.

Papworth joined Mew Jensen on the podium again in Plymouth, winning bronze on 405.95 while City of Sheffield’s Yasmin Harper improved from her sixth place last year to win silver with 407.95.

Holly Waxman continues form to claim 3m gold

Another member of the successful British team at the 7 Nations Meet took the title in the Group B 3m Springboard as Holly Waxman won gold.

Having also won 3m gold in France, the City of Bradford Esprit diver continued her form to seal the national title on 337.40.

Having finished ninth last year, Dive London’s Lucy Sefton impressed to capture silver on 332.75 while bronze went to Crystal Palace diver Evie Summers.

Summers is making her Junior Elite debut this season, having won the Group C 1m and 3m double at last year’s ASA National Age Group Championships.

But the 13-year old proved more than capable of holding her own at the top level of national junior competition as she scored 322.75.

Evangeline Piper wins maiden Junior Elite title

Plymouth Diving’s Evangeline Piper won her first British Junior Elite title with victory in the Group C Platform.

Piper won bronze in the same event 12 months ago but improved her score by more than 25 points to take gold with 279.45.

City of Leeds’ defending champion Callie Eaglestone took silver on 278.55 while Star Diving’s Tilly Brown won bronze with a score of 255.65.
