Waxman and Brown capture third golds

Holly Waxman and Alfie Brown secured golden hat-tricks on the final day of British Elite competition at the 2015 ASA National Age Group Championships in Sheffield.

The Group C age group of the British Junior Elites are being run alongside the ASA NAG Championships this year, and Waxman and Brown have been two of the standout divers on show.

You have to ignore the prelim when it comes to a final and just try and do your best anyway.

Waxman, who dives for Bradford Esprit, took her third gold in the 1m Springboard, scoring 280.25 to secure the title alongside her 3m and 3m Synchro crowns.

Amelia Connolly of Crystal Palace received silver for 273.25 and her teammate and Platform champion Louise Bradley followed close behind for a bronze medal with 270.10.

Waxman said: “I was happy with my first dive. I didn’t do as well on my other two dives in that final but I was still happy with my performance.

“I wasn’t really expecting a medal in synchro because we haven’t practiced much because we’re from different clubs. But I was really happy because I’ve trained really hard.

“You have to ignore the prelim when it comes to a final and just try and do your best anyway, no matter what place you’ve come in the prelim.”

Brown stars with stylish back 2 ½

Brown of Star Diving dropped his backward 2 ½ in the Elite Boys C Platform prelim, but made up for it by executing the dive with style to score 61.60 for it in the final, setting himself on the path to gold.

It proved to be the best of his three in the final as he finished on 342.50.

“That was great – the best dives I’ve done today and I’m really happy with them,” said Brown.

“With the back dive, I just tried to relax and kick out at the right point then try and get my hands on it.

“I was hoping for some medals but I wasn’t really expecting as many golds so I’m very happy with how it’s gone.”

Angus Kerr of Southampton Diving Academy was the only other diver to go over 300 on the day. He won silver on 307.90 while Tyler Humphreys of Southend Diving collected bronze with 295.80.
